Lonavala has been our go to place from years. Since childhood I remember traveling to Lonavala, like once in two months or maybe once in six months. But whenever we think about a place to travel for relaxation, Lonavala is the first one to pop in our minds.
Main reason for choosing Lonavala is that it is really close to our place of residence. It takes approximately one hour to reach Lonavala by bus. But it also depends on the traffic.
We all mostly prefer taking a bus to Lonavala as there are many locals and tourists traveling to the place. Also because of good connectivity we get bus from a closer bus stop which is around 10 to 15 minutes by auto rickshaw.
The bus journey includes picturesque views of the hills and mountains with greenery especially in the monsoon season where the vibrant green shades soothe the eyes and the beautiful waterfalls are worth a mention.
The other reason we prefer Lonavala is that it is clam and pleasant throughout the year even in the hot months the the climate is not sweaty at all.
We like going on long walks in the area to the temple trying, different snacks street foods, samosas, chikkis, sandwiches and other local delicacies. Fudge and Chikkis of Lonavala are very famous and are a must try when you are at the place, if you have a sweet tooth. I personally don’t love sweets that much, I have a liking towards spicy food. But I do try a little portion of these sweets because why not, right?
There are many good hotels around that you can choose to stay. Make online reservations to avoid issues, because in season rooms are full as there are many travelers travelling to Lonavala for a break. So make sure to do the online bookings or at least inquire before visiting. Many hotels provide vegetarian meals as I myself I’m a vegetarian so we need to look where we’re getting vegetarian food and don't worry, there are bundle of options available to choose from in the menu.
If you are willing to take a cab to reach Lonavala that is a great option too, as you can reach there in a lesser time than from the bus. Bus has various pick-up stops. If you’re taking a cab, you can directly reach Lonavala without in between stoppages.
Talking about tourism in Lonavala there are various places to visit. You can visit the Narayani Devi Mandir I absolutely love the temple. We’ve been there many times and it is my favorite place in Lonavala if you have a spiritual soul you’d love it. Make sure to know about the timings of the temple before visiting, as it is closed in the afternoon time.
Clicked these photos few weeks back. The temple also has a 'gaushala' -Cow shelter. And they have delicious thali that you can purchase for lunch.
Few other places of tourist interest include, Ekvira Temple, Bushi dam, Wax museum, Karla Caves, Lohagad fort, water & theme parks and more. You can hire a guide to take you to the sightseeing places or you can yourself do the sightseeing. You can also participate in adventure sports in Lonavala. But be sure to visit the places cautiously in the monsoon season. Especially the dams and waterfalls. As they may overflow causing risk. Safely enjoy visiting the place with family and friends.
Have you ever been to Lonavala? And Narayani Devi Temple. If yes, how was your experience?
